About Fractal Neurons
Fractal Neurons is a biomedical AI and drug discovery company. We run a small, senior team at unusually high leverage, sustained by agentic software infrastructure that lets a handful of engineers operate at the scale of a much larger organisation. You will join early, own meaningful surface area from day one, and work directly with the CTO and a tight engineering group.
About the role
You will sit at the interface between data science and engineering, turning research workflows into reliable pipelines and curated datasets. The work spans cheminformatics data, biological observation pipelines, and the tooling that makes our data reproducible and usable.
What you'll do
- Curate datasets and build and maintain our data lake and pipeline tooling
- Build and extend ingestion pipelines (e.g. ChEMBL / PubChem hydration) and complete molecule-embedding workflows
- Build data pipelines for biological observation stations: metadata logging, manifest generation, and cloud-storage upload
- Develop human-in-the-loop labelling and review tooling for active-learning datasets (e.g. DeepLabCut workflows)
- Extend internal visualisation libraries and write validation / benchmark harnesses for ML pipelines
What we're looking for
- 1–3 years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role
- Good understanding of LLM principles and proven experience in implementing agentic workflows
- Strong Python and experience building data pipelines
- Comfortable translating between research needs and production infrastructure
Bonus points
- Cheminformatics (SMILES, RDKit), computer-vision datasets, or bioinformatics exposure
How we work
Our engineering rests on three principles: cloud-agnostic architecture across GCP and AWS (Azure on the roadmap) to preserve pricing leverage and avoid lock-in; vendor-agnostic agentic systems built with parity by design; and an on-premises-first approach to compute. We value engineers who are comfortable operating across a wide scope, learning fast, and taking ownership in an early-stage environment where responsibilities evolve quickly.
What we offer & how to apply
A high-ownership role in an early-stage biomedical AI company, direct mentorship from senior engineers, and exposure across the full stack of a modern drug-discovery platform. Compensation is indicative and negotiable depending on experience. To apply, send a short note and your CV or GitHub/portfolio to patricia@fractalneurons.com — tell us about something you have built and owned end to end.
